The 2026 AGM
The well attended 2026 AGM was held on the 26th March.
To start with, some notes on the highlights of the main events that Sport Godalming has organised during the previous 12 months. Such as; the 13th Godalming Run that had attracted over 655 runners across the three distances and had raised just over £7k, the Simon Steel Cricket Festival for Junior Schools, the Sport Godalming Bowls Competition and finally our Sports Awards Ceremony that is held to acknowledge the many achievements by local athletes of all ages.

The open meeting began with Councillor Bob Crooks, Mayor of Godalming, saying a few words. The Mayor said that he thought sport was good for you. He thanked all the organisers, sponsors and volunteers that made this possible across Godalming and Farncombe.
Race Director, Owen Kimber gave his update on the Godalming Run, reporting that this year’s run would take place on Sunday May 17th. So far, we have had more runners registered than at the same time last year. Owen outlined the route and the various duties the volunteers undertake on the day. He appealed for both runners and volunteers to assist on the day.
Four of our successful applicants for Go for Gold were present at the meeting and were awarded their bursaries. These were Yaz Husan, International Bowler, Ollie Jermy, a middle-distance runner, Tilly Farrar, a discus thrower and Bella Cheeseman, a gymnast. Absent were Holly Linfield, an archer, Molly Butler, a skier and Alexandra Jennings, hockey player.

Andy Jeffery, Godalming Town Clerk, then spoke about asset transfers from WBC to GTC with particular reference to sporting venues. GTC is very keen to encourage and support sport in the borough and circa £300k has been invested into sport in recent years via section 106 agreements. The merit of each venue has to be validated with clean leases in place to enable the transfer to be made.
Professor Andrew Lockwood from Guildford & Godalming Croquet Club gave an entertaining presentation covering the history of the sport and also the local club. It is a game played in all weathers and international fixtures can be far more competitive than the lawn version. The club have an open day in May to which everyone was invited.
