Funding for your dream

At Sport Godalming, we believe in everyone having the chance to pursue their sporting dreams. We have strong local and Surrey-wide connections, helping clubs with funding leads and supporting individuals in reaching their sports goals.

There are 2 types of funding you can apply for, read more below...

Go for Gold Champions Fund
Go for Gold was originally created to support athletes with potential for the 2012 London Olympics. Since then, we've helped numerous local stars across Olympic, Commonwealth, International, National, and County levels.

We're continuing this program for those aiming for LA 2028 and other competitions. Aspiring athletes need funding to reach the top, and Go for Gold is here to help them soar.

Our 2025 funding program is now closed, however you can apply for 2026 now. You can apply using the link below - entries close on February 28th 2026.
Sport Godalming Grant Aid

Leisure and sport can be expensive and to assist individuals, mainly younger persons, we make small grants – for example for training costs (including travelling), competition costs and specialist clothing.

You can apply for this grant at any time. We look forward to hearing from you!

  • What is the difference between Grant Aid and Go for Gold Champions Fund?
Our Grant Aid Fund is aimed at people starting out on their sporting career who need some financial help to enable them to progress to the next level. Our Go for Gold Champions Fund is aimed at sports people who are competing at county and or international level.
  • How do I apply for funding?
By completing the application forms that are available on our website, you will find these above on this page.
  • Do I Have to Live in Godalming to Apply?
No. If you live in one of the villages around Godalming, or if you are in full time education within the prescribed area, or if you are a member of a sports club within the same area, you may qualify. Please see the application form for full details. We try to be as flexible as possible.
  • When can I apply for funding?
Our Grant Aid Fund is open throughout the year. The Go for Gold Champions Fund is allocated on an annual basis and applications need to be received no later than the 28th of February each year.
  • Who judges my application?
The Grant Aid Fund applications are decided by the Executive Committee that normally meets every other month. Go for Gold Champions Fund applications are adjudicated by an independent panel of experienced local sports people who are well known and respected in the sporting community.
  • How much might I receive?
This is a difficult question to answer. It all depends on how much money is available, the number of applicants and the quality of your application. We aim to use as much of the amount of money that has been set aside in our budget as possible.
  • Once I receive the money, can I spend it on what I like?
No. The money must be spent on the areas that you have outlined in your application.
  • Once I receive the money, do I have to keep in contact with Sport Godalming?
We always like to keep in contact with sports people that we assist. We may request that you keep us updated with your ongoing progress in your chosen sport.
  • What else might Sport Godalming ask me to do?
We would ask you to publicise the assistance that we have given to you so that other people are aware of our funding packages, and in turn might consider applying for our help. We may invite you to our annual Sports Awards evening that normally is held in November. If you are applying for assistance under the Go for Gold Champions Funds, there are other requirements highlighted. Please see the form for the latest and full details.
